3 Reasons to Ditch the Easter Bunny

CEO and Founder of TruPlay, Brent Dusing, writes about why it's unwise to prioritize the frivolous and worldly distraction of a giant bunny delivering candy-filled baskets during our holiest of Christian holidays. His op-ed presents a persuasive argument for prioritizing the Easter story over the cultural prominence of the Easter Bunny.

Brent outlines three key rationales for redirecting focus towards Jesus during the holiday:

1. Nurturing Children's Faith: Encourage early introduction of Jesus to children, emphasizing its role in shaping their resilience and providing suggestions for integrating faith into daily routines. One effective method of incorporating faith is through the TruPlay mobile app. Families can utilize this app to access TruPlay's array of Biblical games and explore stories from The Action Bible, fostering a deeper understanding of Jesus' teachings in an engaging and accessible manner.
   ‍
2. Modeling Christian Values: Highlight the importance of consistent Christian behavior from parents, underscoring that secular symbols like the Easter Bunny do not inherently convey Christian values. When we make a deliberate effort to engage our children in faith-forming conversations, experiences, and even entertainment, we empower their faith to flourish from an early age, profoundly shaping their entire lives. Let's not allow the distraction of the bunny to overshadow the importance of nurturing our children's spiritual growth.
   ‍
3. Presenting the Authentic Easter Narrative: Address concerns about discussing Jesus' crucifixion with children and assert the importance of sharing the true biblical account of Easter, emphasizing its significance over secular distractions. No matter how creatively we try to present it, the most authentic rendition of the Easter story is found directly in Scripture. Emphasizing the central message that "Jesus came to seek and save the lost" is paramount in understanding the true significance of Easter.

Ultimately, Dusing advocates for a reevaluation of Easter traditions, urging families to prioritize the central message of Jesus' resurrection and salvation. By incorporating TruPlay's mobile app and its array of faith-based games and resources, families can deepen their understanding of Easter's true significance and strengthen their connection to their faith.
