How to Parent Your Children Through a Turbulent Election Season

Christian parents and caregivers of children face a monumental challenge in these turbulent times. To many, it seems as though there’s never been a stranger and more disturbing election season than this one—and we haven’t even made it to Labor Day, which in the past has been considered the point when many Americans begin to pay attention to candidates and offices.

These days, however, even many children are aware of the shocking events of this season (even in Uganda, where a viral video of children re-enacting the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump was reportedly recorded!). How are we supposed to guide and counsel our kids when the airwaves and internet are afire with outrage, controversy, and contention?

My suggestion is to see the strange events of this campaign season as an opportunity. Sure, our political parties and media organizations will amplify events and stoke the “culture war” fires. And not only we but our children of all ages can be victims of the confusion and discord. But they don’t have to be.
