25 Bible Prayers for Kids (and Their Parents) | TruPlay Parents’ Guide
2/28/2025

Many parents, however, are at a loss, at least after a child learns "Now I lay me down to sleep..." (some versions of which introduce the concept of death, which may not be the best way to send a child off to sleep). Happily, though, the Bible provides numerous prayers that can be prayed with--even memorized by--children of all ages. Here are some recommendations:
Prayers for the Very Young
The Lord is my shepherd (Psalm 23:1).
You, Lord, are a shield around me (Psalm 3:3 NIV).
When I am afraid, I will trust in you (Psalm 56:3).
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me (Psalm 3:5 NIV).
Prayers for School-Age Children
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want (Psalm 23:1).
The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1 NLT).
You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble (Psalm 32:7 NIV).
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety (Psalm 4:8 NIV).
I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart (Psalm 9:1 NIV).
Keep me safe, my God, for in You I take refuge (Psalm 16:1 NIV).
Create in me a clean heart, O God (Psalm 51:10 NIV).
Prayers for Older Children
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings (Psalm 17:8 NIV).
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer (Psalm 19:14 ESV).
Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior (Psalm 21:5 NIV).
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me (Psalm 23:4 NIV).
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! (Psalm 121:2 NLT).
I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go (Psalm 143:8 NIV).
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path (Psalm 119:105 NIV).
God, have mercy on me, a sinner (Luke 8:13 NIV).
Not my will, but yours, be done (Luke 22:42 NIV).
Prayers for the Whole Family
Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth (Psalm 124:8 NIV).
God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us—so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations (Psalm 67:1-2 NIV).
We your people, the sheep of your pasture, will praise you forever; from generation to generation we will proclaim your praise (Psalm 79:13 NIV).
We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign (Revelation 11:17 NIV).
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil (Matthew 6:9-13 NIV).
Is There an App that Will Help Children Pray?
Believe it or not, there is an entertainment platform that offers truly empowering messages for kids–including videos that can model prayer for a child. The TruPlay Games app–sometimes referred to as “the Netflix of Christian mobile games for children”–features prayer videos featuring animated characters from some of the games and digital comic books in the app. In one, Oliver the “biblical fox” prays the Lord’s Prayer; another features Maple the tiger bunny and the Twenty-third Psalm.
That’s not all. The TruPlay app provides a safe, high-quality entertainment environment filled with games, videos, and digital comics that add up to countless hours of engaging fun for children, youth, and adults. It is a Christian resource for all ages, but especially for children,
TruPlay's website (TruPlayGames.com) clearly details the app's offerings, and free downloads and trials are available in both the Apple App Store and GooglePlay. Explore the following links to unlock a safer gaming experience for your kids:
