Who’s Talking...to Your Kids?

The immensely popular video game Roblox has been in the news lately, heightening parents’ concerns—and those of all who care about online safety for the millions of children who frequent the game. The Bloomberg news site shared a report suggesting that Roblox’s parent company hasn’t done enough to protect players from predators and pedophiles. Roblox developers quickly responded that the platform (which provides many games and activities, as well as in-app purchases and chat features) has safeguards in place, though they also confessed to being “overwhelmed by the volume of child safety cases they are addressing,” according to the Dot Esports site.

Unfortunately, Roblox is far from the only gaming platform to struggle with such issues. Many video games and websites offer chat rooms to children, of course. And efforts to screen users and prevent adults with malign intentions from participating meet with widely varying degrees of success.
